LAUTECH STUDENT set to represent the institution at the National Level of the Inter- Campus Debate Competition after emerging the winner of the semifinals at the southwest region level of the Inter-Campus Debate Competition.
The Inter-Campus Debate Competition, tagged 'Join the Value Train to Campus', was organised by the National Orientation Agency to ignite a passion for national values among Nigeria’s brightest minds. The event is part of a national identity project championed by NOA’s Director General, Lanre Issa-Onilu.
It also aims at promoting the National Value Charter called 7 for 7. This charter emphasizes the government responsibilities and the citizens duty. With these, a nation can be built that is driven by values, set goals and commitment to the well-being of the citizens.
The team LAUTECH that comprises: Olanipekun Opeoluwa from the department of Agricultural economics as the team leader, Adekunle Ayomide from the department of Mechanical Engineering, Olushina Oladeji and Olatoyinbo Ayomide, both from the department of Medicine and Surgery.
The team lead in person of Olanipekun Opeoluwa in his words, made it known that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rom Kalilu and the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Adepoju put forward the team after receiving a letter from National Orientation Agency NOA. They showed concern with them on the short notice but the team only saw it as a challenge for excellence in performing their duty for the school, convenient or not.
As they had initially reassured the school management, though faced with tough challenges, they refused to doubt themselves and how very encouraged and excited they felt on winning the competition.
This fueled their need to strive for more and fortunately emerged as the winner with a grand prize of five million naira.
The team lead emphasized that “Securing a winning mindset is one thing that the team has prioritized over time” He further explains that they have routines and activities that help to keep fit mentally, physically and emotionally.
In preparation for the national levels, the team knows that more knowledge is needed beyond the level they have attained so they forget about the past wins and focus on the upcoming challenge
Finally, the team advised the student populace and in their words “Lautech is a fertile ground for growth, provided you have a seed in your hands to plant. Plant your seed now, nurture it, and wait for the harvest. This applies to your academics, personal development and life generally. Remember, plant your seed now”
