Staylite Diary: Three Things I Wish I Could Do Better
My name is Adekunle Oluwapelumi, I am a 400L student of Food Science, department at LAUTECH. My journey on campus has not been a bed of roses but the most worthwhile one I have been thriving to live. I had flaws which time has helped me to resolve. I will be sharing a few things I didn't do well that you could improve on.
Although I just happened to come across this quote, I can relate it to how I felt when I came to realize things I should have done earlier to do better in school.
The first thing I have identified moving from my first year on campus to this penultimate year is that, to have distinctions in courses, you must prepare hard for your Continuous Assessment (CA) test remarkably well.
Unconsciously, the game I played often while in lower levels was that I used my test as a friendly match (using the terms of football), not studying as I ought for it and intending to cover up for it during the exam. This has turned out not to be the best idea and I have learned the potency in reading well CAs.
Also, make a seat for yourself at the front of the class. I always avoided the front because I was always shy and tried to not get noticed. This wasn’t the best as seating at the front helps to get what the lecturer says better and have a mind-mind connection with them.
Additionally, you must always be on the lookout to move with people who are academically better than you. I am more of an introvert, so I was not good at creating and sustaining connections. By the time I realized this, everyone already had their circles and it was hard for me to have relationships with peers.
However, I learned to be their friend from afar so I could go to them whenever I needed assistance.
