The Future Of Ogbomoso Is Bright!

Our friends over at Ennovate Lab have been doing really amazing work driving innovation and collaboration among Ladokites.
But beyond the university community, they are also capturing inventive ideas in the minds of young secondary school students within the broader community through the Ogbomoso Innovation Challenge (OIC) — and the results have been nothing short of astonishing.
At the debut of OIC in June 2018, these kids wowed the audience with smart solutions like Bluetooth-enabled smart electricity control phone app, educational plan for nomadic Fulani children in Ogbomoso, and Neem tree extracts as an organic pesticide.
And at this year’s edition which focused on ideas around education, health, agriculture, and technology, the students also did not disappoint.
The students of Mighty Miracle College won the grand prize of ₦100,000 with an innovation they called “Bladeless Fan.” They came with their prototype, and unlike your conventional fans, this fan is rechargeable, portable and has zero-noise.

The first runner-ups of the event were the students from Anglican Model College, who came up with an innovation to end black-out in Ogbomoso. They built a wind-turbine which cannot only provide electricity but can also charge a lamp. This team went home with the prize of ₦75,000.

The team from George Green Baptist College bagged the sum of ₦45,000 as they emerged as the second runner up with a project they called “Intelligent Floor Cleaner” which makes household chores easier.

There’s a popular saying that “talent is equally distributed but opportunity is not.” But thanks to the good people at Ennovate Lab, we’re positive this won’t be the story in Ogbomoso for long.
Do you think Ogbomoso has what it takes to become a major innovation hub in Nigeria? What are some of your ideas? We’d love to hear.
