Wo, I No Do Again: How LAUTECH Students are Coping With Enormous School Activities and Its Effect on Their Mental Health
This interview was conducted between 9-13th of June, 2021
Schooling comes with its pros and cons. Usually, it's not very easy for students who have to combine school with work, and for fresh students who are yet to get the hang of things.
We interviewed a couple of students to know how they have been managing their personal life, academic life, social life, spiritual life and how it's telling on their mental health

After classes most days, I teach, as a side hustle. Although my department has been very stressful, I am also learning a lot of things about my course. I have awesome lecturers in my department.
It really has not been easy finding a balance but I have learnt to manage my time and give time to important things in my life. It hasn't been easy juggling academics with my other engagement, sometimes it really affects my mental health. I'm thankful I have great friends who help me when I break down.

The classes coupled with 100l registration haven't been easy at all due to high population. Whether you are there or not, the lectures will go on. Some of us miss classes and fnd it difficult to understand what have been taught in class.
I often feel tired and mentally stressed when I remember exams will commence in a few weeks time and I still have a lot of makeup practicals and studying to do.
It’s just like LAUTECH want to kill me with this 3 months of registrations, classes and exam.

To me, my department is the most interesting part of being in LAUTECH. I've learnt my place as a Food Scientist is much more important in the emerging world. I kind of set priorities to be able to find balance and to protect my mental health, I know when to take things easy. I have been able to cope because I have people who cheer me on. I think that's the secret to my strength.
Lawal Fawaz Adewale, 500level, MLS.
I'm a serial volunteer and a translator. Translating and teaching are my side hustle. Starting from the bulky syllabus to stressing out clinical posting, my department is undoubtedly very stressful.
I can't say how it directly affects me, but moving back to Ogbomosho has a trivial effect on my mental health.
As a typical Ladokite and a forced Nigerian, we don't have any other choice than to conform to the change either awful or fair. The journey has been rigorous but with God and His guidance over me, I'm apt to be getting along with the trials .
